Janet Yamamoto

Janet Yamamoto, Ph.D., is a professor in the Department of Comparative, Diagnostic, and Population Medicine at the UF College of Veterinary Medicine. She is the co-discoverer of FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus) and the sole inventor of the first commercial FIV vaccine. She is also the lead author of a study investigating a link between FIV and HIV viruses. Dr. Yamamoto's grandfather was the first person to publish Albert Einstein's works in Japanese - and in return, Einstein sponsored her father to become the first Japanese citizen to visit President Truman after WW II. In 2015, she was inducted into the Florida Inventors Hall of Fame.
