Ben Shen

Ben Shen, Ph.D., is a professor of chemistry and molecular therapeutics and the director of the Natural Products Discovery Center at the Herbert Wertheim UF Scripps Institute for Biomedical Innovation and Technology. He received his Ph.D. in organic chemistry and biochemistry from Oregon State University and completed his postdoctoral training in the University of Wisconsin – Madison. Dr. Shen’s research interests involve natural product biosynthesis, engineering, and drug discovery. His lab research centers on the chemistry, biochemistry, and genetics of the biosynthesis of secondary metabolites produced by microorganisms that can be leveraged for multiple therapeutic goals.
