Ryan Downey

Ryan Downey, Ph.D., is currently a scientific consultant for a company that sells functional Near Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS) equipment to labs for research purposes. He was previously a research scientist in the Human Neuromechanics Laboratory in the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering at the University of Florida. He earned his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the University of Florida in 2015, where his work focused on nonlinear control and functional electrical stimulation. His research interests include developing new signal processing algorithms that enable the examination of brain activity during whole body movement without the detrimental effects of motion artifacts and understanding as well as predicting mobility decline in older adults with mobile brain imaging.
