Lakiesha N. Williams, Ph.D. is a professor and associate chair for graduate Studies in the J. Crayton Pruitt Family Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Florida. She leads the Tissue Mechanics, Microstructure, and Modeling Laboratory, where her research focuses on Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias , and bio-inspired materials development. Dr. Williams earned her B.S. in biological engineering from Louisiana State University and her Ph.D. in biomedical engineering from Mississippi State University. Her work has been recognized nationally, including her election as a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) and the recipient of the Research Excellence Award from UF’s Department of Biomedical Engineering in 2022 Dr. Williams is a nationally recognized leader in biomechanics and injury modeling, with a strong focus on translational research in brain injury and tissue characterization.
